June is National Garage Door Safety Month

Keeping your garage door in good shape can not only help save you money should you need more expensive repairs down the line; it can also help keep you save in case your door malfunctions. There’s no better time to have your garage door checked out than this month, which is National Garage Door Safety Month. Your garage door, which is often times the heaviest moving object in your home, can injure someone if not in proper working order. There are a few steps you can take to make sure all is safe.

  • Schedule regular maintenance for your garage door.
  • Test the balance of your door by opening it. If it opens easily, and stays open approximately 3-4 feet off the ground, the balance is good.
  • Make sure the automatic reverse function is sensitive enough by placing a roll of paper towels on the ground under where the door would meet the surface. If the door hits the towels and does not automatically re-open, readjust the door’s sensitivity.
